Major Baseball Level - 12U (Ages 12 & under)
11U/12U pitch at 46 feet and the bases are at 60 feet. At Walker, it’s the closest base pegs (of three) and the closest pitching rubber. (Please note there is sometimes a third pitching rubber that is temporary for AA games in which case 46 feet would be the middle rubber).
11 and 12 Year Olds
The average fastball is between 50-60 mph. However, at this age the players may start to hit puberty, therefore it is not uncommon to see a pitcher throwing near 70 mph. The changeup velocity at this age is typically between 40-50 mph.
Some studies suggest that our mitochondrial DNA — and therefore our mom — plays a key role in our athletic endurance. For example, Spanish and Israeli scientists looked at one mitochondrial gene, which is associated with the amount of oxygen cells we can use during exercise.
Sports competition and training often begin as early as age 6. The number of children taking part in organized competitive sport increases linearly from this age, with a maximum between 11 and 13 years of age.
Athletes that practice esthetic sports, especially gymnasts, are predisposed to a delay in pubertal development. The growing evidence indicates that energy deficiency, not a systemic training per se, plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of functional hypothalamic hypogonadism in female athletes.
In general, 18 is too old to start baseball if you wish to get into a college team or MLB someday. However, it is never too late to start a sport if you want to do it recreationally. Thus, you can start baseball as long as you can bat, throw, catch, and run. Yes, there have been MLB debuts by people over 30-years old.
Players of any age are capable of learning to be a switch hitter with enough practice. It typically takes 2-3 years of dedicated practice to learn to swing from the opposite side as a teenager or older. It takes no extra time if that’s how you first learn.

The maximum speed obtained by 10- 11yrs, 12-13yrs and 14-15yrs boys were 6.45m/sec, 6.77m/sec and 7.70 m/sec and average speed of all three group were 5.76m/sec, 6.01m/sec and 6.47m/sec respectively.
Running Times for Boys
Any time faster than 8:40 would be considered a good time, since it puts the boy in the top half of his age class. If the boy runs the mile a minute faster, coming in at about seven minutes and 40 seconds, he rises to the 75th percentile.
Pitching velocity by age in the U.S.

Young pitchers who throw breaking balls–including sliders–report more arm pain than those who do not. The right age to start throwing a slider or curveball is between 14 and 15, which gives a player enough time to develop the pitch (takes 1-3 years) so that it’s good by the time the college recruiting process heats up.
No studies found increased force or torque about the elbow or shoulder. Three epidemiologic studies showed no significant association between pitching a curveball and upper extremity pain or injury.
What pitches should a 12-year-old throw? 12-year-olds should stick to throwing fastballs and change-ups. Throwing other pitches, like curveballs or sliders, can place unnecessary pressure on a young pitcher’s shoulder. This pressure on the shoulder has the potential to cause shoulder issues in the future.
ROOKIE BASEBALL (6-7)
The Rookie Division is our introductory to baseball after T-Ball. Per the Little League Baseball Age Calculator, players must be 6 years old to play. Any player that is 7 will be placed at the rookie level if they do not assess high enough to be placed in farm baseball.
