So in 1961, the American League was the first league to play a 162-game season. In the 1962 season, the National League followed suit. And the MLB has had a 162-game regular-season ever since this change (with the exception of the 60-game 2020 season).
Baseball has 162 games mainly because of money. Teams make more money the more home games they play, television partners make more with the more games they broadcast. The dollar runs sports, as evidence by the skyrocketing of player salaries. However, 162 games is not needed to decide who the best teams are.
Last year MLB said the “2022 season will be played with only balls manufactured after the production change,” meaning the deadened ball we were supposed to get in 2021.
The number one reason a team elects to do a day-night doubleheader is cash. The day—night double header allows two games to be played in one day with the team still receiving two gates worth of cash. This is not possible in a back to back game since all the fans remain in the ball park during the break.

The Regular Season
The Major League Baseball season runs from the start of April to the end of September, with each club playing 162 games. That means about one day off every ten days, so baseball is pretty much “game-a-day”.
Seattle’s 116 wins in 2001 are tied with the 1906 Cubs for the most in a single season in baseball history. Chicago went 116-36 in 1906 and had a better winning percentage than the 2001 Mariners (. 763 vs. . 716), but 116 wins is the all-time record.
A 162-game season will be played in 2022, though it will begin a week later than usual. The games that are missed will be made up later in the season as part of doubleheaders, off-days, etc.
No shock here: drinking alcohol during a baseball game is clearly prohibited under MLB rules, even though it’s arguably one of the only sports in which a mild buzz wouldn’t likely result in a serious concussion, missed pass, or poorly negotiated green (that’s what they call it in golf, right?).
The A level is for recreational teams and now offer ‘A’ level World Series events. Major Division — The top competitive teams in the country. AAA Division — Middle of the pack competitive teams. AA Division — Teams that have restricted rosters, drafted players, or play at the recreation level.
It seems like a waste to throw those baseballs away, so what happens to those discarded baseballs? In the MLB, discarded baseballs don’t get reused at all. Discarded baseballs go through a process to get authenticated and sold in MLB shops as used memorabilia.
Balls must consist of a core made of cork and rubber, or similar material, which is wrapped in yarn and covered with cow- or horsehide. Save for the addition of the cowhide cover option in 1974, the ball composition guidelines have remained unchanged since 1955.
Humidors work by bringing baseballs to an average humidity, which means in a dry park, they will become more humid and heavier. In humid parks, however, a humidor will dry out the baseballs and make them lighter.
Professional baseball umpires don’t make quite as much as the MLB player minimum salary, but they’re still well off financially. According to Career Trend, the starting rookie umpire salary is $150,000 and the more experienced umpires and senior umpires (like Joe West) rake in as much as $450,000 per year.
Hall of Fame Major League Baseball (MLB) player Babe Ruth’s 1927 salary would be equivalent to $922,000 US Dollars (USD) in 2015. Ruth received a 35% salary increase in 1927 and was paid $70,000 USD for his record-setting season in which he hit 60 home runs.

Currently, major league teams playing two games in a day usually play a “day-night doubleheader”, in which the stadium is emptied of spectators and a separate admission is required for the second game. However, such games are officially regarded as separate games on the same date, rather than as a doubleheader.
